What Mirpur Drive is, who makes it, how the 3D city is built from OpenStreetMap data, and what it is not.

What it is

Mirpur Drive is a free, open-source 3D reconstruction of the Mirpur corridor along MRT Line 6 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It runs entirely in a web browser: there is nothing to download, no account and no payment. You can walk the real street grid, drive a car through traffic, and ride the metro between Pallabi, Mirpur 11, Mirpur 10 and Uttara South in the north, and Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani and Farmgate in the south.

Who makes it

It is a personal project by Abir Kolin, built in the open on GitHub with help from AI coding assistants and released under the MIT licence. It is not a company, it has no investors and it shows no advertising.

How the city is built

The street layout, building footprints and metro alignment are real, taken from OpenStreetMap. Most building heights come from Google's Open Buildings 2.5D dataset, which measures them from satellite imagery; where that has no coverage the height is estimated from the footprint. Facades, shop signs, traffic and pedestrians are generated procedurally.

The metro stations, the viaduct, the trains and a set of landmarks (the cricket stadium, the Mirpur 10 foot over bridge, Benarasi Palli, the Parliament building and a stretch of shopfronts at Pallabi) are modelled by hand from photographs. Textures are CC0 from ambientCG, vehicle models CC0 from Kenney, and all sound is synthesised in the browser.

What it is not

It is a fan-made simulation, not an official product. It is not affiliated with Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the Parliament Secretariat or any business whose name appears on a sign. Business names are shown as plain text to make a real street recognisable; logos are not reproduced. It is not a navigation tool: do not use it to plan a real journey.

Getting involved

The most useful contributions come from people who know Mirpur: a wrong building, a missing sign, a landmark worth modelling. The contribution guide in the repository explains how to help with map data, textures, models, landmarks and code.
